Mary the First Disciple Extraordinary Educator Award

Congratulations to Joan Ernstmann, an Instructional Coach in the Resource Room at Magdalen Catholic School, who has received the highest honor that the Catholic Diocese of Wichita awards to teachers: the Mary the First Disciple Extraordinary Educator Award. It is given to a teacher who exemplifies the *very best* of our Catholic schools.

Mrs. Ernstmann has been a teacher in our diocese for over 40 years. She is a community builder who forms relationships of trust with students and families, and is constantly looking out to meet the needs of all the people she serves. She is quick to help with anything that is asked of her. There is nothing more important to her than her faith and passing on that faith. Not as a set of rules but as a place of hope, security, and comfort. People around her come closer to God because of her presence. She does everything with a full heart and with the best interest of others in mind.

Magdalen Catholic School in Wichita was awarded the 2023 Catholic Culture Distinguished School of Excellence Award.

Schools receiving the Catholic Culture recognition are schools where evangelization, discipleship, and stewardship are fully alive and where Catholicity permeates the culture of the school.
