Here are a few things we will work on this week:

Phonics:  Our letter this week will be o as in octopus.  We will work on rhyming words, reciting the alphabet, and identifying which letters are vowels and which are consonants

Language Arts:    Our story this week is The Meanies by Joy Cowley.  We will introduce predictions, story recall, and punctuation.  We will continue to work on verbs.

Math:   We have started our first Math unit, shapes!  This is Unit 14 in our Math series.  You might be curious as to why we start at unit 14 and not 1.  Most of our students come in knowing their shapes.  Therefore, these first few weeks are review with a few new concepts added in.

Religion:  The story of Creation, Mass Behavior, and the Bible.

Social Studies/Science:   We are continuing to learn about school rules and how we treat our classmates at school.  We will start talking about our Families as well.

Just a few reminders:

1.  Don't forget that the ASQ parent questionnaires are due by  Friday, September 4th.  Remember to do the assessment on paper first and then enter the information online.  I do not need the paper copy back.  If you are having any issues completing the questionnaire, please let me know.

2.   PLEASE place name plates on your car dash board for pickup line.  The only way we can see it is if it tented.  This will really help us to get everyone to the correct vehicles.  Feel free to make more signs at home if needed.  Thank you for all your help in keeping our parking lots safe for the students!

3.  FYI:  Kindergarten will be going on their first field trip to Applejack's Pumpkin Patch on October 14th.  We will be gone from approximately 9:15-1:30.

We survived our 1st full day of Kindergarten!  It was a great and the children rocked Kindergarten!   Expect your children to be REALLY tired by the end of the week.  Here are a few things we will work on this week:

Phonics:  Our letter this week will be L.  We will introduce our phonics series.  Coming home in the folders this week is a parent note about our phonics series along with some sight word flashcards to practice.

Language Arts:    Our story this week is The Jigaree.  We will talk about the different parts of a book as well as authors, illustrators, and characters in a story.  We will also talk about rhyming words.

Math:   We have started exploring the different manipulatives we will use in Math this year.  We've talked about how we take care of them as well as how they help us in Math.  By the end of the week we will be starting our unit on shapes.

Religion:  We will talk about the story of Creation for the next few weeks.

Social Studies/Science:   We are learning about school rules and how we treat our classmates at school.

Just a few reminders:

1.  Don't forget that the ASQ parent questionnaires are due by  Friday, September 4th.  Remember to do the assessment on paper first and then enter the information online.  I do not need the paper copy back.  If you are having any issues completing the questionnaire, please let me know.

2.  We had library today, so every student will be coming home with a library book in their back pack.  These need to be returned every Monday in order to check out a new book next week.   I always suggest to the children to leave their library book in their backpack and when they want to read it, take it out and read it, and then return it right back to their backpack.  This will help avoid it being lost or forgotten on Library day.

3.  PLEASE place name plates on your car dash board for pickup line.  The only way we can see it is if it tented.  This will really help us to get everyone to the correct vehicles.  Feel free to make more signs at home if needed.
