RCIA is now Becoming Catholic: The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).  In Becoming Catholic, men and women who are interested in the Catholic faith journey together as they prepare to receive the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and First Communion. They will also receive formation on the sacrament of Reconciliation and the rest of the sacraments. Participants will grow in relationship with Jesus Christ and one another through shared experience, reading, praying together, and class lectures.

When does Becoming Catholic meet?

Classes are Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:45pm beginning Wednesday, September 10.

Is Becoming Catholic for me?

The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults is for adults who have never been baptized who seek to become Catholic. It is also for adults who were baptized in another Christian church who seek to become Catholic. Adults who were already baptized as Catholic, but who have not celebrated the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Holy Communion, and Confirmation.

How does the process work?

OCIA consists of three distinct phases: inquiry (or pre-catechumenate), catechumenate, and purification & enlightenment (direct preparation for the sacraments).

Phase 1 - Inquiry: The period of inquiry is marked by exploration and discernment about the Catholic Church. It is a time to consider the Truth, Beauty, and Goodness that God has written into creation and made manifest in the Incarnation of his Son, Jesus Christ.

Phase 2 - Catechumenate: Only after this period of accompanied inquiry does a person go through the Rite of Acceptance and become a catechumen preparing to receive the sacraments of the Catholic Church.

Phase 3 - Purification and Enlightenment: This is a time of prayer, study, and more intense preparation to receive the sacraments of the Catholic Church. Participants formally enter the Church and receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil Mass (the Saturday night before Easter Sunday).
