The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process by which adults who are interested in the Catholic faith, journey toward full Communion into the Catholic Church.
Ministering as a sponsor is a great opportunity to help bring others into faith by witnessing to, and sharing, your own faith. In journeying with one’s catechumen or candidate, the sponsor’s faith and prayer-life also deepens and is renewed. Being a sponsor is like being a bridge into the life of the parish for the OCIA candidate. A willingness to share your lived faith is the essential dimension of being a sponsor. You are not a teacher or catechist; instead you accompany your catechumen or candidate in following Jesus Christ as a new member of His Church.
