Protocol for Finding a Substitute:

While the Blessed Sacrament is exposed, the Church maintains the standard that at least two Adorers are present to protect and honor the Real Presence of Jesus. In the eventuality that you will have to miss your regularly scheduled Adoration Hour, please refer to this 3-Step Protocol for finding a substitute.

  • Step 1: I am unable to make my scheduled hour:

    • Is it an emergency situation or last-minute?

      • Yes: the parish office should be contacted during business hours, (316) 634-2315, or if it’s after-hours call the Rectory’s Emergency Line, (316) 616-0735

      • No, then…

    • Are there at least 2 other adorers regularly present in my hour?

      • Yes: Notify at least 2 of them you will not be present.

      • No: Move on to Step 2…

  • Step 2: Covering your spot on your own:

    • Option 1: Go to adorationpro.org/magdalen and request a substitute for your hour (use "subpass" as your password).  If you do not hear back in a reasonable time explore Options 2 & 3.

    • Option 2: If the hour before or after yours has more than 2 adorers attending regularly, contact someone from one of those hours ask them to shift to cover your hour for that week.

      • Day Captains have their contact information if you do not.

      • It is suggested you take it upon yourself to find this information as a matter of course.

      • Another option is to have someone each from before and after your hour split your hour into two 30-minute shifts between them.

    • Option 3: Ask a friend or family member to cover your hour for that week.

      • If you cannot find someone to cover your hour or your absence is last-minute, move on to Step 3…

  • Step 3: You can call your Day Captain in order to…

    • Follow up on an Adoration Pro substitute request (Day Captains can follow up via call/email)

    • Get contact information of other adorers, such as those immediately before or after your hour

    • Request an intervention on the part of the Day Captain

      • Day Captains may have their own Substitutes List

      • Day Captains may be able to attend your hour for you

      • The Day Captain can then refer your request to the Adoration Chapel Volunteer Coordinator and/or the parish office.

If you don't know who your Day Captain is, please refer to this list:
