Church of the Magdalen seeks a Music Director to direct the Magdalen Chancel Choir and to be the leader of the cantor ministry for the parish. The Music Director will work closely with the parish organist/accompanist and pastor to conduct an SATB choir of approximately 30 adult stewards supporting various liturgies of the parish (primarily the 9:30 am Sunday liturgy). The Music Director will be responsible for the training, scheduling, supporting and recruitment of cantors for all non-school liturgies at which cantors are to support the liturgical music and will perform such other tasks as are assigned by the pastor. The successful candidate will be well-versed in traditional sacred choral music, liturgical norms for Catholic music ministry, and choral direction. Job functions are expected to occupy approximately 7-8 hours per week (with summers off), and salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications.


·         A degree in music from an accredited college or university, or prior experience in conducting an adult SATB choir in traditional sacred choral music.

·         Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and liturgical norms for the presence and use of music within the Eucharistic liturgy.

·         Training in the precepts of Safe Environments, including VIRTUS.
