Subject Over View

Math: The 2nd graders will identify quarters, dimes and nickels. They will show the same amount of money using different sets of coins.

Religion: I will teach them about the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the steps involved in receiving the sacrament of the Eucharist.

Phonics: They will read and spell with diagraph oa, oe, and diphthongs.

Language Arts and Writing: They will begin to write their research pamphlets.

Handwriting: The 2nd graders will work on cursive strokes.

We will still have a spelling test this week. I’ll give them a hard copy of the list on Monday. Please have them study the words and sentences each night. The pretest is on Wednesday and the final test is on Friday. If they score 100% on the pretest they don’t have to take the final test.

Subject Over View

 Math: The 2nd graders will use logical reasoning to solve problems. I’ll review Topic 11 on Wednesday and the test will be on Thursday.

Religion: They will identify sacrifices that show our love for others. I’ll review chapter 13 on Thursday and the book will be sent home. The test will be on Friday Morning.

Phonics: The 2nd graders will read and write with final stable syllable -tion and sights words

Language Arts: The 2nd graders are researching their planet and taking notes about it.

Science: They will create a seed in a pod and test how it travels.

Spelling Words of the Week

There is no new spelling test this week.

Last weeks final test will be taken tomorrow due to the day off school.

-The Victory in the Valley Field trip has been moved to this Wednesday. We still need more drivers. So far, we have enough drivers for 18 students in our class. I need drivers for 9 more students. Please let me know by tomorrow at 3:20. Thank you for the quick turnaround.

 Math: The 2nd graders will solve problems be finding number patterns. I’ll review Topic 10 with them on Tuesday and the test will be on Wednesday.

Religion: I’ll review Chapter 14 on Monday and I’ll send home the book. The test will be on Tuesday. They will then go on to study Jesus’s teaching on prayers.

Phonics: They will read and spell with suffix -en, -ish,- ist and sight words.

Writing: The 2nd graders will write a paper using similes.

Language Arts: They will research their planet.

There is no spelling test this week.

Last weeks final test will be taken tomorrow due to the day off school.

 Math: The 2nd graders will skip count by different amounts and compare three-digit numbers with symbols. They will test on Topic 10 next week. 

Religion: They will provide examples of loving acts of service. There will be a test next week on this Chapter.  

Phonics: I will teach them how to read and write with     -igh and combinations.

Language Arts: The 2nd graders will continue to take notes about the planet they chose for their project.

Writing: The 2nd graders will write one paragraph about what super power they would choose and why

-Happy Catholic Schools Week! We have a fun week ahead of us. Please read the school wide email that was sent out with the special schedule.

-I wanted people to know that I won’t be sending home the Religion EOL test. I can share their results with you at the next conferences if you would like. They will take the Religion EOL test again at the end of the year.

-The 2nd graders will take their Aimsweb test for Reading and Math. The tests are in the computer room and then I’ll progress monitor each student for the Reading Test. The Reading test is on Wednesday and the Math test is on Friday.

-They will also be taking their Religion EOL this week. This is the paper and pencil test. We’ll do two pages per day. So please be practicing the Religion EOL questions.

 Math: The 2nd graders will use models and the standard algorithm to solve two-digit subtraction with and without regrouping. The test will be next week.

Religion: They will take the Religion EOL each day and will describe the parts of the mass in their workbooks.

Phonics: I will teach them how to read and spell with sight words and the vc/cvc/cv pattern.

Language Arts: The 2nd graders will use apostrophes to form contractions.

Writing: The 2nd graders will write a response to Horton Hears a Who.

Science: They will do an experiment to answer the question “What makes a canyon.”

There will be a mandatory parent meeting for First Communion on Wednesday, February 20th from 6:30-7:30 in the Parish Hall. Fr. Jirak will speak to the group and then Miss Clark will go over the logistics and answer any questions about First Communion. We will have the photographer there as well to answer your questions and look at photo packages available. Please sign in next to your child's name on the sheets on the back table of the Parish Hall. The meeting is for parents only and only one parent is required to attend.

Reminders/Info

-First Reconciliation is this Sunday at 2:00. A note about it went home on Friday. Also, a letter from Fr. Jirak was sent out to each 2nd grade parent. Please practice the Act of Contrition and the Steps for Confession each day this week. Children should wear church attire. Boys typically wear khakis or dress pants with a polo or button-down dress shirt. Girls may wear nice pants, shirts, dresses, etc. No jeans or athletic clothing please.

-Please continue to send a jacket and coat to school.

Religion: I will teach them how to recognize and appreciate the Liturgy of the Word at Sunday Mass. They will also continue to practice the steps for confession each day in school.

Phonics: They will read and write with suffixes -er, -est, -y, diagraph ai and ay.

Science: They will continue to learn about how sand is on the beach. Also, they will Identify bodies of water on the planet.

Cursive: They will continue to practice strokes for cursive.

Writing: The 2nd graders will edit their Present to Baby Jesus Story.

Science: They will test their models they created to discover why a rivers flows in one direction.
