Reminders/Info

-The 2nd graders will take their Aimsweb test for Reading and Math. The tests are in the computer room and then I’ll progress monitor each student for the Reading Test. The Reading test is on Wednesday and the Math test is on Friday.

-They will also be taking their Religion EOL this week. This is the paper and pencil test. We’ll do two pages per day. So please be practicing the Religion EOL questions.

 Math: The 2nd graders will use models and the standard algorithm to solve two-digit subtraction with and without regrouping. The test will be next week.

Religion: They will take the Religion EOL each day and will describe the parts of the mass in their workbooks.

Phonics: I will teach them how to read and spell with sight words and the vc/cvc/cv pattern.

Language Arts: The 2nd graders will use apostrophes to form contractions.

Writing: The 2nd graders will write a response to Horton Hears a Who.

Science: They will do an experiment to answer the question “What makes a canyon.”

The pretest is on Wednesday and the final test is on Friday. If they score 100% on the pretest they don’t have to take the final test. Three bonus words will



 

There will be a mandatory parent meeting for First Communion on Wednesday, February 20th from 6:30-7:30 in the Parish Hall. Fr. Jirak will speak to the group and then Miss Clark will go over the logistics and answer any questions about First Communion. We will have the photographer there as well to answer your questions and look at photo packages available. Please sign in next to your child's name on the sheets on the back table of the Parish Hall. The meeting is for parents only and only one parent is required to attend.

Reminders/Info

-First Reconciliation is this Sunday at 2:00. A note about it went home on Friday. Also, a letter from Fr. Jirak was sent out to each 2nd grade parent. Please practice the Act of Contrition and the Steps for Confession each day this week. Children should wear church attire. Boys typically wear khakis or dress pants with a polo or button-down dress shirt. Girls may wear nice pants, shirts, dresses, etc. No jeans or athletic clothing please.

-Please continue to send a jacket and coat to school.

 Math: The 2nd graders will take the Topic 8 test on Monday. Then they will learn how to borrow and regroup with two-digit numbers in subtraction.

Religion: I will teach them how to recognize and appreciate the Liturgy of the Word at Sunday Mass. They will also continue to practice the steps for confession each day in school.

Phonics: They will read and write with suffixes -er, -est, -y, diagraph ai and ay.

Science: They will continue to learn about how sand is on the beach. Also, they will Identify bodies of water on the planet.

Cursive: They will continue to practice strokes for cursive.

-We need Treasure Box items. I’m so thankful for what has already been donated this year. The 2nd graders get very excited about the treasures.

Writing: The 2nd graders will edit their Present to Baby Jesus Story.

Science: They will test their models they created to discover why a rivers flows in one direction.

Religion: They will list the Ten Commandments; identify mortal and venial sins; and make an examination of conscience in class.

Phonics: I will teach them how to read and spell with ch, tch, and -ing.

Language Arts: The 2nd graders will use capitalization in sentences.

Writing: They will write their final draft of their Turkey story.

Science: They will review for their science quiz in class and take the open note test on Tuesday.

Religion: I will teach them the importance of reconciliation with God and one another. They will learn about different saints and play the saints bingo game in honor of All Saints Day. We will also discuss about the importance of All Saints day and why we go to mass on that day.

Handwriting: They will practice printing words neatly.

- At the fundraiser we had a pajama day and pizza party bought for our class. On Friday they will be able to wear school appropriate PJ’s and lunch with be provided. I’ll send more details about the day on Wednesday.

Phonics: They will read and write with the sneaky e, oo, and the final k spelling.

Religion: I will review chapter 5 with the 2nd graders on Tuesday and the book will be sent home to study. The test will be on Wednesday.

Writing: The 2nd graders will write a persuasive paper about Frankenstein.

Handwriting: They will practice lower case letters in print.

Religion- They will explain the concepts of free will and recognize the nature of sin and God’s readiness.

Language Arts- The 2nd graders will learn when to use adjectives or a verb. They will take notes about it in their interactive notebooks.

Science: They will observe oobleck and classify it as a solid or liquid.
