Reminders/Info

-The 2nd graders will take their Aims Web Math test on Wednesday Morning. They do not need to study at home for this.

-Grandparents Day is this Thursday and Friday. Please read the school emails about details.

-Please send a school Magdalen jacket if your child has one. It gets cold in our classroom sometimes.

Subject Over View

Math: I will teach the 2nd graders how to add doubles, and near doubles in any order. They will have a test next Thursday for Topic 2.

Phonics: They will code words with diagraph /th/, /ph/, and sight words.

Language Arts and Writing: The 2nd graders will write sentences with irregular nouns. They will also write a story about finding a loss dog.

Religion: I will review Chapter 2 on Wednesday and send home the book. The test will be on Thursday.

Science: They will classify materials as living or non- living matter.

 

Spelling Test 2

We will still have a spelling test this week. I’ll give them a hard copy of the list on Tuesday. Please have them study the words and sentences each night. The pretest is on Wednesday and the final test is on Friday. If they score 100% on the pretest they don’t have to take the final test. Three bonus words will be given on Wednesday.

Reminders/Info

-The 2nd graders will be taking several tests this week. It is a mix of chapter tests and their aims web test. Their Aims Web Reading test is on Wednesday. There is no studying at home needed for this test.

- We are doing dress code checks throughout this week. Please read the dress code rules in the agenda and feel free to contact me if you are unsure on anything.

Subject Over View

Math: The 2nd graders will write stories about comparing and will explain the relationship between addition and subtraction. They will review Topic 1 on Wednesday and the test will be on Thursday.

Phonics: They will practice letter recognition and how to code using Rule v-, blends, and with k and c.

Religion: I will review Chapter 1 on Monday and the book will be sent home. Please send it back with them the next day. The test will be on Tuesday.  

Language Arts: They will take notes about collective nouns and write sentences with them.

Science: The 2nd graders will describe how all things around them is made up of Matter.

Reminders/Info

-Please label your child’s agenda folder if you haven’t already done so. Please use a sharpie. On the left write, Bring Back and on the right put Stays Home.

-If you would still like to donate something to the classroom. We need ten decks of regular playing cards. We use them for math games. Please email me if you would like to donate this. Thank you to all those who have already donated supplies.

- They will have homework this week.

Subject Over View

 Math: In math this week the 2nd graders will learn how to write subtraction and addition sentences. 

Phonics: They will review vowels and how-to code words with a VC pattern

Grammar: The students will define nouns and learn how to write a sentence with a collective noun.

Religion: I will teach them about the holy meal at mass and that we are the people of God.

Science: They will learn how God and Science never contradict each other.

Handwriting: The students will work on their hand/body posture when writing.
